Meet the Officer Candidates 2016-2017

NYC UXPA announces the following nominees for 2016 - 2017 election:

  • President – Elaine Matthias

  • Vice President – Akiko Ikkai

  • Treasurer – Rob Kovacs

Elaine Matthias

Experience Designer, Rosenfeld Media

Experience: At Rosenfeld Media, my role is to bring a combination of strategic thinking and project management to developing services and products for UX professionals. I enjoy this position because I spend much of my time fostering collaboration within the UX community. Whether I am working with Rosenfeld Media authors, attendees of the Enterprise UX conference, or other UX practitioners from diverse backgrounds, I have experience with the multiple touchpoints within a diverse community and feel uniquely qualified to inject energy into the NYC UXPA community.

Vision: In my first year as president, I've worked to bring more diverse types of events to our monthly meetings, including short presentations, longer Q&A sessions, panel presentations, and team presentations. I've helped foster our growing mentorship program through a sponsorship arrangement with MasterCard to help fund the program. In 2016-2017, I'll continue to explore new channels to help our members stay connected with the best local resources for UX practitioners, including improved email outreach, capacity building workshops, and business partnerships.

Vice President

Akiko Ikkai

UX Researcher, Wiley

Statement: My passion is to empower people with knowledge. As a UX Researcher by day, I advocate for user needs, and inform product ideas and development based on User-Centered Design. As the VP of NYC UXPA 2015-2016, I have been instrumental to the volunteer training effort to ensure smooth event execution. This includes matching the new and existing talent pool to NYC UXPA's needs, and standardizing and centralizing documentation to share knowledge. I have also managed a project to analyze post-event attendee surveys to inform event planning. As the VP during the 2016-2017 term, I'm excited to listen to NYC UXPA members' voices even more, and deliver topics that are high in demand, as well as trending topics.

Rob Kovacs

User Experience Designer, Self-employed

Statement: The NYC UX community is unique in terms of how welcoming it is to new members, and how interested we all are in seeing one another succeed.

I was the beneficiary of that generosity when I was mentored in the first round of the NYC UXPA Mentorship Program, and ever since I've tried to return the favor by helping to run that program, and by volunteering at NYC UXPA events.

As Treasurer, I would aim to keep the organization running smoothly so that everyone who makes the NYC UXPA great - the other officers, volunteers, members, and supporters - can keep doing what they do best.
